How to Perform LiveUpdate at the Desktop
Using Symantec Antivirus Corporate Edition

Summary

To get the latest virus definition updates from Symantec for the *Symantec Antivirus Corporate Edition (SAV or NAV) you can force the download by doing a LiveUpdate. To force the download perform the following steps. These actions are performed at the End Users Desktop.

Detailed Steps

Step 1: Look in the lower right hand side of your screen in the System Tray.

 

Step 2: Double click the yellow shield in the System Tray to open the SAV (Symantec Antivirus) Corporate Edition application.

If you do not see the yellow shield or there is a red line through the yellow shield, contact your system administrator for assistance.

 

Step 3: Review the virus definition date. It should be today's date or within a few days of today's date.

To find out the latest virus definition date see Step 11.

 

Step 4: To force update your computer click on the LiveUpdate button.

If your LiveUpdate Button is grayed out, contact your system administrator. That option may be restricted by the administrator.

 

Step 5: Click the Next button to begin the download.

 

Step 6: Observe the download process. Report all errors to your system administrator if they occur.

 

Step 7: Click the Finish button to complete the update process.

 

Step 8: In some cases after receiving the virus definition update the date on the main screen in the SAV application does not update immediately. To refresh this screen close the SAV application by clicking on the Exit button.

 

Step 9: Double click the yellow shield in the System Tray to open the SAV (Symantec Antivirus) Corporate Edition application.

 

Step 10: Review the virus definition date. It should be today's date or within a few days of today's date. Then close the SAV application by clicking on the Exit button.

 

Step 11: If you suspect that your SAV did not update or you need to know what the current virus definition date is, go to Symantec Antivirus Research Center's website at http://www.sarc.com. Halfway down the main page in the section called LiveUpdate will be the latest virus definition date next to the Extended Version line item.



 

* = Symantec no longer calls their products by the Norton Name. Norton Antivirus has been renamed to Symantec Antivirus. NAV is now referred to as SAV. CE is still referred to as the Corporate Edition.
